About This Spot

Stepping into Winfield Inn in Sykesville is like coming home to a well-worn, familiar neighborhood gathering spot where stories and laughter flow as easily as the ice-cold drafts they still serve in frosted mugs. This humble bar and grill carries the quiet charm of a place that feels lived-in and loved — a spot where locals unwind, knowing the pace is unhurried and the welcome is genuine.

The atmosphere hums with a friendly buzz, punctuated by easy conversations on the smoking deck and the soft clinking of glasses inside. There’s a relaxed southern Maryland vibe here, where hearty plates and cold beers are a bridge between neighbors and visitors alike. The mood is comforting rather than flashy, anchored by aged wood accents and simple, no-fuss tables that invite you to linger over a meal or settle in for a long chat.

At its core, Winfield Inn is a place defined by tradition and flavor, serving dishes steeped in local heritage without fuss. Think rich, creamy crab soups that echo the Maryland coast, steaks sourced from nearby butchers, and mouthwatering plates like meatloaf paired with indulgent mac and cheese. These aren’t just menu items; they’re familiar tastes that tell a story of community and care in every bite.

There’s a warmth in the way the staff interact with regulars, often catching up on local news or sharing a quick laugh, creating moments that remind you this is more than a restaurant — it’s a slice of everyday life. Visitors quickly find themselves woven into the fabric of the place, welcomed on the smoking deck by friendly greetings and invited to slow down, savor, and connect.

Winfield Inn’s charm lies equally in its food and its atmosphere: approachable, comfortable, and wholeheartedly local. It’s a spot where the focus is on genuine experiences, shared around good food and poured glasses, making it a quietly special find on Old Liberty Road.

A bit of a dive, but the food was phenomenal. The cream of crab soup was exceptionally good as well as the crab balls. The service was ok, but the waitress was so busy talking to the locals that she left us hanging for quite a bit. The food came quickly and she brought it out just fine, but we waited for quite awhile (after she knew we were done) for the check.

I wish I lived closer to this terrific place. We only get to visit about once a year but whenever we are traveling (even remotely close) we make it a point to go for food, drinks & atmosphere. Even tho it's a neighborhood place they are so outgoing to visitors, just so friendly! Before you even get to the door the people on the smoking deck start talking to you the minute they see your out of state license plate. You have a choice between the dining area or the bar area (that has tables, booths or seats around the pretty large bar) it's always busy which shows you how great it is! Everything is delicious but our favorites are crab balls (crab cakes made round so they stay so tender & soft in the center) the corn nuggets (small fritters) mac & cheese & the fantastic burgers. Find your way to this little gem you'll become hooked.

Great local hometown spot for food and ice cold beers. Kinda hidden, but worth a visit. Some of the best Cream of Crab soup you'll ever have! And they still use frosted mugs for draft beers. Steaks are directly from a local butcher, and their Maryland Steamed Crabs are top notch!

Traveled here for the ultimate soup I think they call it. We called it half and half. Half cream of crab, and half classic maryland crab soup. It was everything everyone talks about and then some!! The service was outstanding, and the restaurant was so comfortable.

I really loved the crab balls!! Cheese steaks were tasty. Kids gobbled up the mac n cheese with chicken tenders. I would come back.

The food was wonderful. Our server, Kiera, was knowledgeable and friendly. The food came out quick and was delicious with great portions. The place was very clean and well maintained.
